If you have these delightful friends visiting your garden, or wish you did, you can attract many species of hummingbirds, by putting up hummingbird feeders! The feeders, themselves, are very inexpensive and you can make the nectar yourself out of 3 easy to find and economical ingredients.

Add 1 1/3 cup of sugar to 4 cups of water (little more or less either way, no big whoop) in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, and then set a timer for 10 minutes, allowing a full rolling boil to continue for the duration. Then remove from heat, and allow to cool. Add 5 drops of red food coloring  (optional) and Voila!

Fill the feeder and hang near a window, so you can enjoy the blessing of their presence!
